Immerse yourself in all the colour and culture with our six-day Lunar New Year program, showcasing a variety of cultural demonstrations and performances including Lion Dance Performances, Chinese Calligraphy, Cultural Handcrafts, Giant Balloon Maze, plus more!
Our Lunar New Year Rooftop Party event with Brisbane’s biggest Lunar New Year fireworks will be held Saturday 8 February!

Lion Dance Performances
Lion Dance Performances
One of the most popular parts of any Chinese New Year celebration is the Lion Dance. When done well, the dance is said to bring good fortune, prosperity and longevity to wherever it is performed.
Master You Nan Chen and the team from the International Wushu Academy will bring all the colour and excitement of the Lion Dance to Sunnybank Plaza, while the team from Lam Tu Luan Kung Fu School will visit Sunny Park.

The traditional Dragon Dance combines the unique colour, sound and spirituality of Chinese culture in a spectacular physical performance. Demonstrating strength, agility, concentration and rhythm, highly skilled dancers bring a colourful fabric and bamboo dragon to life. See the world-renowned Dragon Dance team from Lam Tu Luan Kung Fu School perform their multi-award winning dance during the Lunar New Year celebrations at Sunnybank Plaza.

AusOriental Orchestra
AusOriental Orchestra
The Sound of AusOriental Orchestra is a non-profit group of local musicians who have come together for the joy of music. Along with the orchestra, audiences will also enjoy some Peking Opera and Chinese Dance performances, featuring friends of the AusOriental group.

Year of the Snake Balloon Maze
Snake your way through out balloon maze to discover all the Chinese zodiac animals, and a variety of scenes in celebration of the Year of the Snake. This one of a kind balloon sculpture, created by Miss Donna and Mr Jay, will provide endless photo opportunities and a wonderful experience for the whole family.

Chinese Calligraphy
Chinese Calligraphy
Chinese calligraphy has been around for over 2,000 years and is one of the highest forms of Chinese art. Calligraphy Master Eric Lin of the Serenity Calligraphy Association has been practising this art form for over 50 years, winning many prestigious awards for his skills. Have your special Lunar New Year message scribed by Master Lin as a treasured memento of this year’s celebrations.

Chinese Silk Embroidery
Chinese Silk Embroidery
Master Artist Jenny Gao, founder of the Xiu Zhen Ge Centre of Embroidery, will be returning for this year’s Lunar New Year celebrations. Jenny will be demonstrating the ancient art of Chinese Embroidery which she has practiced for over 20 years, and will have a range of traditional fashion and accessories for sale. Beginners embroidery workshops will also be on offer.
